May 14, 2025 Friends - Philadelphia Meets Simone Biles! Last week, youth and families from Friends of the Children chapters across the nation had the extraordinary opportunity to connect with world champion gymnast and Friends of the Children spokesperson, Simone Biles. Simone, the most decorated gymnast in history, graciously joined a national Zoom call to share her story, including her personal experience in foster care and the critical role mentorship has played in her life. Her message was clear and powerful: every child deserves consistent support and someone who believes in them. As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Simone also shared some of the breathing and calming techniques she uses to manage stress and pressure, both on and off the mat. Our youth practiced these techniques in real time, gaining valuable tools to support their emotional well-being. To make the experience extra special, our Philadelphia chapter hosted a pizza party for youth and families to gather and participate in the call together. The room lit up when Simone gave a special shoutout to Philadelphia! We're deeply grateful to Simone Biles for taking time to connect with our community and uplift our youth. Her vulnerability, strength, and encouragement inspired everyone in the room—and made lifelong fans out of all of us.
