Building Community at Our First Friendraiser
Last weekend, we gathered with supporters and partners for our first-ever Friendraiser, an evening celebrating the power of long-term, professional mentorship and the difference it makes for Philadelphia youth.
The event was co-hosted by our Board Chair, Dwayne Wharton and Rob Lamb at the Just Strategies Hub in Mt. Airy, a welcoming community space that set the tone for meaningful connection.
During an interactive moment, our Executive Director Dr. Betty Handy invited attendees to reflect on the qualities of a great mentor and give a shoutout to the mentors in their own lives. Words like patience, love, and boundaries filled the room — qualities our Friends embody every day in their work with children and caregivers across Philadelphia.
Our goal was to create an evening centered on community and shared purpose. We’re thrilled to say we achieved that! Many guests heard about our work for the first time and expressed interest in getting involved. We were also honored to have representatives from City Council and the Mayor’s Office join us, opening the door to future collaborations that can strengthen our impact.
We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us and made it an evening full of inspiration and hope.
