Dr. Betty Handy

Executive Director

Betty is a proud native of Philadelphia with a love for the city, its history and the people. She has worked in youth development throughout most of her career. Her early career was spent in banking and finance with the Vanguard Group. After transitioning into the field of education, she spent a combination of 16 years as an administrator in higher education at Community College of Philadelphia and as an advocate for youth who were at the greatest risk for dropping out of high school with Communities in Schools of Philadelphia.

Her most recent position as a Development Director at a local private school has afforded her the opportunities to cultivate and steward relationships with key stakeholders while advancing the school through its $14 Million campaign. She is a consummate professional and leader who enjoys a good laugh, cooking, walking on beautiful nature trails and spending time with her family.

Betty earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Temple University, Masters degree in Adult Education from University of Phoenix and a Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Wilmington University. She is excited and eager to launch the Philadelphia chapter of Friends of the Children to positively impact children in North Philly and Kensington. It is her passion to continue to serve as a champion and see the youth of Philadelphia win.
